Membrane air admittance valves are installed in interior drainage
systems to balance pressure in the system and
prevent odor release from the drainage system into rooms.
When wastewater flows down the stack, a
negative pressure is created in the stack, which can lead to water being siphoned from traps
and thus unpleasant odors
from the external drainage network being released into the room.

Operation: inside the air admittance valve, a rubber disc (membrane)
regulates the air flow entering the drainage stack.
The membrane closes the ventilation opening when the pressure in
the stack equals atmospheric pressure or when there is
overpressure in the stack, thus preventing air (odor) from
the drainage system from being released into the room.

Membrane air admittance valves are installed according to design.
IMPORTANT! In a building, at least one drainage stack must
extend above the roof; membrane air admittance valves may be installed
on all other vertical collection pipes.
– Membrane air admittance valves MUST BE INSTALLED IN VERTICAL POSITION.
– Membrane air admittance valves must be installed in a location that
ensures sufficient air volume necessary for pressure
equalization in the drainage pipe and also the chosen location must
allow access for cleaning.
– Membrane air admittance valves are installed at the upper end of
interior drainage stacks,
above the highest sanitary fixture at the highest level
that receives wastewater.
– Thus, the advantage of using them is that
penetration through ceiling (slab, roof, etc.) is no longer necessary, which
usually involves additional costs both for additional material
and labor.
– Also, they are installed on individual or multiple pipes that are
longer than 4m from the collection stack.
