VALPlast covers made of SMC composite material are used to cover manholes.
The manufacturing process consists of processing the raw material in molds shaped like the finished product, subjected to temperatures above 150°C and pressures above 100 bar.
Advantages of using SMC raw material compared to other composite materials:
– using SMC (Sheet Moulding Compound) compared to BMC (Bulk Moulding Compound) provides a uniform structure of the finished product and superior surface finish
– SMC fibers are longer than in the BMC version
– SMC allows manufacturing large parts with a homogeneous structure and excellent mechanical, thermal, and chemical properties.
– only with this type of raw material can the optimal orientation of the fiberglass be kept constant to achieve high strength that remains consistent over time in the finished product.
– compared to BMC, with SMC it is impossible to use inert filler materials (sand or gravel), materials used to reduce the cost of the finished product but which dramatically reduce strength.
– using SMC has the advantage of maintaining consistent finished-product quality due to the automated production process. Also, this process generates no technological waste, the finished-product surface is very well finished, and it enables strong, large-size parts with a homogeneous structure—difficult to achieve using BMC
– the product is non-polluting and can be fully recycled.

When choosing the cover, please consider the area where it will be installed; classification is according to EN 124-1:
– Group 1 (min. class A15, 1.5 t): areas used only by pedestrians and cyclists
– Group 2 (min. class B125, 12.5 t): pedestrian areas, parking lots, or multi-storey car parks
– Group 3 (min. class C250, 25 t): gutter channel area, max. 0.5 m measured from the curb into the carriageway and 0.2 m onto the sidewalk
– Group 4 (min. class D400, 40 t): traffic lanes on streets (including pedestrian streets), stabilized shoulders, and parking/standing areas for all types of road vehicles.

– lower weight compared to cast-iron covers
– do not release hazardous substances into the air or water
– do not corrode
– do not generate noise when vehicles pass over them
– anti-theft protection
– electrical insulator (when using manhole covers for electrical power networks or where electrical loading is present, the risk of electrocution accidents is zero. The same applies to electrostatic charges. For these reasons, in fuel distribution station installations only covers made of composite materials are permitted)
